14,500 bags of fertiliser missing: CID arrests Asunafo N. MoFA director

The Asunafo North Municipal Director of the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA), Mr Eric Aduamah has been arrested by the Goaso police command over some 14,500 missing bags of fertiliser which were meant for farmers under the Planting for Food and Jobs (PFJ) programme.

They were worth GHS946,000.

Mr Nuamah was neither able to name the beneficiary farmers of the fertiliser or account for the quantum.

He was subsequently reported to the Criminal Investigation Department of the Goaso Divisional Police Command.

The missing quantum comprised 7,400 and 7,097 NPK bags of Uriar fertiliser supplied by the government to the Asunafo North office of the ministry for the 2017/2018 crop season.

The Media Relations Officer of MoFA, Ridwan Issah said on Wednesday that: “I can confirm from the checks that I have made so far from the Brong Ahafo Region and the internal audit team that the Municipal Director for Asunafo North in the Ministry of Food and Agriculture has been arrested. He was arrested yesterday [Tuesday]. He is currently in the grips of the police and assisting with the investigation over the missing of some quantities of fertiliser.”

“This fertiliser is not for 2018/2019 crop season but for 2017/2018 crop season. Last year, we introduced a coupon system of which each farmer was supposed to be given a coupon so that they’ll use that as a chip to go and take the inputs from the municipal offices or the district offices”, Mr Issah told Accra-based Citi FM.
