145,000 jobs get financial clearance – Oppong-Nkrumah

Information Minister-designate, Kojo Oppong-Nkrumah, has said that the government has received the green light “for over 145,000 jobs as we do more to create economic opportunities for more Ghanaians”.

In a bid to deepen job creation in the private and public sector, Mr. Oppong-Nkrumah said on Tuesday, 9 October 2018, at a press briefing that the latest move will reduce unemployment in the country.

Giving a breakdown of the statistics, Mr. Oppong-Nkrumah said about 24,000 of the employees are health workers and over 9,500 will be in the education sector.

The rest are 4,000 for the Ghana Police Service; 3,500 for other security agencies; 2,700 Agricultural Extension workers; 1,049 local government workers; 20,000 for afforestation and approximately 100,000 for the Nation Builders Corps (NaBCo).

The Ofoase Ayirebi MP said the government is aware of the overwhelming number of people still looking for jobs and, so, “the government will continue with actions that are aimed at creating more opportunities even as we improve economic conditions and government finances”.

He said the government is committed to creating favourable conditions to spur numerous job openings and, so, the One District-One Factory programme will be intensified.

Individuals who are to benefit from the 145,000 jobs are supposed to be at post before the end of 2018.
