A/R: Nurse trainees, police in bloody clash; 45 injured

A student of Afia Kobi Nursing Training College in Kumasi, Ashanti Region, has been hospitalised at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) with 45 others sustaining various degrees of injury following a clash between the students on the one hand, and the police as well as the security task force of the Tafo Municipal Assembly.

The armed police officers and the task force of the Assembly, stormed the campus on Monday, 22 October 2018 to enforce a summons by the TMA after the school’s Director allegedly defied some sanitation by-laws.

Chaos erupted when the students attempted to resist the arrest of their proprietor.

A victim of the clash, Clement Owusu Ansah, told Class News’ regional correspondent, Maxwell Ofori-Atta that some of the students were severely brutalised in the melee and sustained various injuries.

The students, on Tuesday, 23 October 2018, wore red armbands and marched through some principal streets of Tafo in protest to the conduct of the police and taskforce.

Some parents and guardians have since besieged the school to withdraw their children.

Eleven of the injured students have been given police notices to seek medical care.
