Alcohol and drug-related mental illness on the rise in Ketu South

The Anloga District Assembly has procured 400 pieces of mono and dual desks for distribution to six schools facing acute furniture challenges as part of Government plan of upgrading facilities  in schools.

Mr. Seth Yormewu, District Chief Executive (DCE) of the area, showing the consignment to the Ghana News Agency at the forecourt of the Assembly, ahead of the distributions, said all schools in desperate need of furniture in the area would be catered for finally.

Benefiting under this allocation were, Agbedrafor Basic, Trekume Basic, Anloga-Agorve Basic, Anloga-Avete Basic, Anloga R.C. Basic and Volta Senior High School, a new second cycle school at Agbledome.

Mr. Yormewu said new classroom blocks have just been completed for majority of the above schools and they required furniture, adding, “The plan is part of Government scheme of upgrading schools right from the Basic to uplift standards as part of the Free Senior High School programme”.

Relating to the Assembly, the DCE said construction of a permanent Assembly Hall Complex will take off soon for the Assembly to vacate the Anloga Shopping Mall, where it currently operates since its inauguration in February this year.

“Plans are advanced for a permanent office Complex for the Assembly to leave the Shopping Mall for the Business community”, he said.

Mr. Yormewu said his outfit had recently met the Assemblies’ Common Fund Administrator over the project, for which procurement processes by government were to be completed by June-July for the Contractors to start work.

He said the project monitoring team from the Fund Administrator had since visited the area to inspect a Government plot of land behind the Anloga District Court premises, being earmarked for the project, to be completed by 2020.

Mr. Yormewu, on staffing at the relatively young Assembly, said all staff were in place except the Engineer, Assistant Directors and Budget and Social Welfare Officers, who the Ministry of Local Government promised to post in by June this year, adding the Assembly was firmly rooted.
