American philanthropist installed Adzinukope Development Queen

The chiefs and people of Adzinukope, a farming community in the Ketu North Municipality, have installed Madam Suzan Rose, an American philanthropist, as the Development Queen for her immense contribution to education in the area.

She was given the stool name Mama Avedzi I.

With support from Pencils of Promise (PoP), a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) focusing on education, Madam Rose built a five-unit classroom block with ancillary facilities for the Adzinukope M.A. Basic School.

The classroom block, the 500th school project worldwide by PoP, was to help increase enrolment and offer conducive learning environment for pupils.

Torgbuiga Asiakpor VI, the Paramount Chief of Weta Traditional Area, said the gesture was in appreciation of Madam Rose’s efforts and the NGO for making education attractive to pupils with appealing infrastructure.

Madam Rose said she adopted the community because she was touched by the difficulty children faced in accessing quality education.

“Adzinukope is dear to my heart,” she said, and promised to help the community grow through education.

Mr Freeman Gobah, the Country Director of PoP, said the organisation was building safe and sustainable educational infrastructure and also providing in-service training for 800 circuit supervisors of the Ghana Education Service.

The NGO, through its Teacher-Support Programme, had deployed 5,400 E-readers with over 540,000 e-books, and 15,000 paper books to some 30 schools.

Mr Gobah said for a healthy learning environment, the organisation was partnering schools and Parent Teacher Associations to provide comprehensive water, sanitation and hygiene programmes to over 60 schools in the Volta and Eastern regions.
