Be cautious when crossing roads during Easter – Hohoe DVLA Senior Engineer

A Senior Engineer with the Hohoe Office of the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA), Samuel Ankudey has cautioned pedestrians to be careful when crossing roads during the Easter festive period.

Speaking on Lorlornyo FM’s Daybreak programme, Mr Ankudey described the Easter festive season as a period when drivers especially those driving commercial vehicles speed on roads because they want to rake in more income.

“During a season such as Easter, most commercial drivers speed on our roads because they want to get to their destinations quickly and return, so they could make more money. This is one good reason pedestrians must be careful when crossing the road.”

He admonished pedestrians to watch the left side of the road to ensure it is clear of traffic, then the right side and then left again before crossing to the other side of the road.

He also advised groups on procession along the road to use the right side of the road and avoid spreading on the road.

Mr Ankudey called on motorcyclists to wear helmets, protective clothing and footwear to guarantee their safety whenever they go for a ride.

“Motorcyclists must protect themselves by wearing crash helmets and protective clothing whenever they ride. Helmets protect riders against head injuries and saves lives.”

He expressed worry about cyclists in Hohoe and Kpando, who he said were becoming notorious for riding at night without headlights, and cautioned them to desist from the practice to protect themselves and others against injuries.
