Bishop Herman: Old students move to rehabilitate dilapidated school structure

Old students of Bishop Herman College have initiated efforts to get one of the school’s major blocks renovated after it was rendered uninhabitable by a rainstorm.
The block, a multi-purpose building that housed about 500 students, the school’s library and other offices, has been abandoned after a recent rainstorm.
The headteacher of the school, Francis Kudolor in a Citi News interview said all students have had to be relocated due to the situation resulting in congestion in other dormitories.
He said, although authorities have been contacted, the situation remains the same.
“The building is old, and the rainstorm came and ripped off the roof. It is a multi-purpose block and houses about 500 students, a library, book store and an office for the storekeeper. Currently, students cannot sleep in them, so we have to relocate them into the other dormitories… We’ve spoken to so many stakeholders, old students, MCE, Regional minister, and so we are waiting that something will be done about it for us,” he said.
But the President of the Bishop Herman Old Boys Union (BHOBU), Dr. Michael Osae, said a group of old students in the built industry have been put together and will visit the school to assess the situation and come up with an estimate for rehabilitating the building.
“We had a meeting with the contractor. We tried and tracked down the consultant to his village somewhere in the Volta Region, and got a copy of the contract, and frankly speaking if you look at the contract, even if he is paid all the money, that block will not get back to how we want it to be… We want some of our old boys in the built environment to do a complete assessment, scope of work, and bills of quantity this week.”
He said the old students will also push for the project contract to be re-awarded “at a very reasonable cost, and we will follow up to track to make sure this is done properly.”
