A circuit court in Accra has sentenced an accounts officer to four years in jail with hard labour, for stealing GHS109,501 belonging to CAL Bank.
The court, presided over by Jane Harriet Akweley Quaye, found Assan Dickson guilty for stealing.
Mr Dicksone, according to the court, used dubious transactions between 2015 and 2016 at the Osu branch of the bank, to siphon the money.
The accused person was also found to have used the passwords of some authorising officers to transfer the money into his three different accounts.
The convict had previously told the police that he used some of the money for himself and part to support students in his family.
Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Emmanuel Haligah, said the complainant was the Financial Controller at CAL Bank’s Osu branch while the accused person worked as the Financial Officer of the same bank.
On 27 September 2016, the prosecution said the complainant, on his routine checks of the bank’s accounts, discovered that the convict had opened two different accounts in addition to the official one that he operated with the bank.
The prosecution said further checks showed that Mr Dickson had transferred GHS109,501.72 from the bank’s account into his three personal accounts, and same had been withdrawn on various dates.
On 25 October 2016, the prosecution said the complainant reported the matter to the police and the accused person was arrested.
The prosecution said the accused person, in his cautioned statement, admitted the offence and confessed that he managed to ascertain the passwords of five authorising officers of the bank and used same to intermittently make the dubious transfers.
