Cassava processing plant to be established at Fodome in pursuit of “One-District-One-Factory policy”

The Hohoe Municipal Chief ExecutiveMrAndrews Teddy Ofori says a cassava processing factory is to be sited at Fodome in pursuit of government’s “One-District-One-Factory” policy.

Delivering his sessional address at the first meeting of the second session of the seventh Hohoe Municipal Assembly last Friday, MrOfori said the chiefs and people of Fodome have pledged to release some sizeable parcel of land for the project.

He said his office is in touch with the chiefs and people of the area for the demarcation and pegging of the requisite land, after which surveyors would initiate the documentary process.

According to him, cassava processing was chosen out of three areas of interest; rice processing, cassava processing and recycling of waste into energy which were presented to the “One-District-One-Factory” secretariat.

He said the rice sector support project is in progress, adding apart from the about 500 farmers who are beneficiaries, the project will be extended for the benefit of other farmers across the municipality.

The Municipal Chief Executive hopes the total output production of crops in the municipality will increase with the implementation of government’s planting for food and jobs programme.

Mr. Ofori said an assessment of the activities of fall army worms in the municipality by the agricultural directorate reveals it had a major drawback to the municipality’s total agricultural output.
