Court detects mistakes on charge sheet against ‘coup plotters’

A Magistrate court hearing a case against three suspects in a coup plot has detected mistakes on the charge sheet brought by state prosecutors.

The Magistrate Rosemond Dodua Agyiri pointed out in court that some of the five charges were beyond her jurisdiction.

1. Conspiracy to commit a crime – Manufacture of arms and ammunition without lawful authority.

2. Conspiracy to commit a crime – Possession of explosives and firearms without lawful authority.

3. Manufacture of firearms without lawful authority.

4. Manufacture of explosives and ammunition’s without lawful authority

5. Possession of explosives and firearms.

Emerging from court, legal counsel for the suspects, Victor Adawudu explained to reporters that the magistrate has directed state prosecutors to amend the charge sheet.

”Because she didn’t have jurisdiction, she did not want to go on,” he said.

Rosemond Dodua Agyiri gave the state two weeks to make the corrections and adjourned the case to October 9, 2019.

She said she understood the need to investigate the matter but adviced prosecution to consider the charges closely by the next court date.

The suspects are Dr Frederick Yao Mac-Palm, a local weapon manufacturer Dornyah “Ezor” Kafui and freight manager, Bright Allan Debrah Ofosu aka BB or ADC. They have all denied the accusations.

Government in a statement released on Monday said a joint security operation on Friday led to the retrieval of several arms, explosive devices and ammunition from locations in Accra and Kpone-Bawaleshie in Dodowa.

Information Minister Kojo Oppong Nkrumah later revealed that some serving military personnel have also been picked up in relation to the same operation.
