COVID-19: Mondays, Fridays Hohoe Market Days closed

The Hohoe Municipal Assembly, through its security committee has ordered the closure of the Hohoe Market on Mondays and Fridays.

The removal of the Mondays-Fridays market days is to ensure strict adherence to COVID-19 safety protocols in a bid to halt the spread of the novel coronavirus, after cases were recorded in Hohoe and parts of the Volta Region.

A statement signed by the Municipal Coordinating Director, Jones Jack Faniyi on behalf of the Municipal Chief Executive, and copied to Lorlornyo FM, said: “The Hohoe Central Market will be closed on Mondays and Fridays until further notice.”

Other measures taken by the Security Committee include; drivers of vehicles moving from or to Hohoe Municipality must take original and supplementary contact and location details of passengers who board their vehicles.

“Motorcycle riders (okada) cannot take more than one (1) pillion rider at a time. Both riders must wear masks and helmets, and riders, at all times, must have hand sanitizers for use by both,” the statement added.

As part of the measures against the spread of the virus, the sale of second-hand clothing in the markets has also been suspended until further notice.

Meanwhile, some callers who contributed on the Community Watch segment of Lorlornyo FM’s Daybreak programme have lauded the measures put in place by the assembly after fears of wild spread of the virus in Hohoe were raised on Lorlornyo FM.

“I want to thank you Lorlornyo FM for bringing up these issues to the public domain for the assembly to act on them,” Foh Paul, a regular caller on the programme said.

Another regular contributor, Mama Pee in an interaction with host Geoffrey Gah-Mensah said: “We appreciate the good work you are doing with your team, Geo. If these COVID-19 issues were not raised on Lorlornyo FM, I don’t think our local authorities would have realised the high risk nature of this virus. Let us all abide by these measure put in place.”
