Eastern Corridor Road: Alban Bagbin counters claim by Hohoe NPP

The Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin has countered claims by New Patriotic Party communicators in the Hohoe Constituency that the erstwhile NDC government pushed contractors onto the Eastern Corridor Road without written contracts a few months to the 2016 elections.

NPP communicators had claimed the NDC knowing it failed to complete work on the Eastern Corridor road as it promised made the move to deceive people of the Volta Region to vote for them.

Speaking on Lorlornyo FM’s Daybreak programme during a tour of the Volta Region, Mr. Bagbin dismissed the claim as untrue and “vague propaganda”.

“You cannot push people onto the road without giving contracts, because the people are definitely going to commit money to the work and so where are they going to get the repayment if there is no contract. What will be the basis for government to pay them without a contract? In fact I must say this kind of propaganda is unnecessary,”he said.

He called on party communicators to move away from deceit to telling the electorates the truth, so they understand and assist governments to achieve their goals.

“I want to advise that, as communicators, we should move away from deceit to telling the people the truth. It is when you tell the people the truth that the people understand what you are doing, that the people will contribute to what you are doing, that people will support you to implement your policies”.

The Second Deputy Speaker of parliament said he will not expect his party, when it captures power to visit same falsehood on the NPP in opposition.

“One day they will be in opposition and I don’t expect our people to visit them with the same falsehood. There is a contract, it was awarded and they know the contractor, and the contractor moved to site and the contractor has done some wok. It is not complete and so it’s your duty now to complete it and stop saying there was no contract,” he said.
