Fire Service commissions new station at Afadzato South District

The Ghana National Fire Service on Thursday commissioned a new fire station at Afadzato South District of the Volta Region to help protect lives and properties from undesired fires and other life threatening incidents.

In an address read on his behalf, the Chief Fire Officer, Dr. Albert Brown Gaisie said the provision of the fire station is in line with the service’s expansion policy to establish a fire station in every district in the country.

He said the commissioning of the Afadzato South District station brings to 23 the number of district fire stations commissioned out of the 25 districts in the Volta Region.

According to Dr Gaisie, the presence of the station should not be a warranty for people to deliberately cause preventable fire outbreaks just to engage the fire tender and the personnel.

“I wish to caution that fire stations do not prevent fires and neither does a fire tender. The availability of the fire station should not be a guarantee for people to intentionally cause preventable fire outbreaks just to engage the fire tender and the personnel.”

Dr. Gaisie applauded a former Member of Parliament for the area, Honourable Joseph Amenorwode, incumbent the Member of Parliament, Honourable Angela Alorwu-Tey, the Assembly’s Coordinating Director, Eugenia Agbenyaga and the entire staff of the Assembly for their personal support towards the establishment of the station.

He identified fire safety as a shared responsibility and encouraged the public to co-operate with the Ghana National Fire Service in their quest to prevent or minimize fire outbreaks.

He also urged the chiefs and people of Afadzato, Leklebi Dafor, Logba, Have and Nyagbo to provide the necessary support to the staff of the service to enable them achieve their expected objectives.

In an address, the Volta Regional Minister, Dr. Archibald Yao Letsa implored fire officers who will be working with the station to be on the constant alert and be ready to respond to emergency calls so that human lives and property could be saved at the shortest notice.
