FULL TEXT: Finance minister presents 2020 budget

The Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta, today presented the 2020 Budget Statement and Economic Policies of the government to Parliament.

The minister dressed in his usual white apparel, holding his famous brown bag delivered what he described as the “Nkosuo ne Nkabom budget” for 2020.

According to the Finance minister, the year 2019 has been “a very good year for Ghana.” This he said was evident in the growth recorded in the various sectors of the economy.

Ken Ofori Atta says the government has directly or indirectly put an amount of GHC1 12.2 billion into the pockets of many Ghanaians since 2017 through its major initiatives and social interventions.

He said the Free SHS policy has saved parents a total of GH?11.8 billion over the last three years.

It is a constitutional requirement for the Minister of Finance on behalf of the President to present to Parliament every fiscal year the Budget Statement and Economic Policy of Government, for scrutiny and debate.
