GRASAG-KNUST worried over politics in students’ affairs

Leadership of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) chapter of the Graduate Students Association of Ghana (GRASAG), has bemoaned the increasingly partisan politics in the affairs of student unions in the country.

The developments according to GRASSAG affects their activities.

KNUST-chapter President of the Association, Kizito Osei Fosu, expressed the concerns at the 2017 Educational Forum organized by the GRASAG-KNUST Women’s Commission in Kumasi.

The forum, which was under theme, “Today’s Graduate; Exploring Numerous Opportunities” exposed postgraduates, undergraduates and students from second cycle institutions to existing opportunities.

He said the infiltration of politics into student affairs, is affecting the entire administration of students’ unions in Ghana, and that steps must be taken to find a lasting solution.

Mr. Fosu described the happenings within as “bad and sickening”, saying that “now as it stands, we don’t have a NUGS President. And you know GRASAG-KNUST wouldn’t be able to walk to the Presidency to table our issues because there are structures.”

He indicated that, the absence of a NUGs President has halted all operations since no NEC meetings can take place, and grievances cannot be channeled to the appropriate quarters without someone spearheading such issues.

He further said students in Ghana have numerous concerns that need urgent attention, but that has not been done because of the current happenings within the student unions.
