Ho-Ahoe launches community education project

Ahoe, a suburb of Ho, has launched a Community Education Project to arrest the falling standards of education in the area and the Volta Region as a whole.

Recent examination results at both the basic and secondary school levels indicate that candidates from the Region continuously performed poorly in the four core subjects namely; Social Studies, Mathematics, Science and English Language.

Togbe Kasa III, the Dufia of Ahoe, at the launch of the Project, said apart from helping to improve the grades of pupils and students, the initiative would also target reducing teenage pregnancy and HIV/AIDS prevalence in the community.

Mr Dickson Kofi Pi-Bansa, the Chairman of the Ahoe Fundraising Committee, said the project was to curb the poor performance of students through the provision of free tuition for those in Junior High School 1-3 in the community.

He said the initiative was also to provide students who lacked suitable learning environment at home the opportunity to study.

Mr Pi-Bansa urged parents to consider education as the tool for development and encourage their children to take advantage of the Project for better academic performance.

Mr John Nelson Akorli, the Ho Municipal Chief Executive, lauded the initiative and called for support from all stakeholders to improve education in the Region.
