Ho SSNIT Flats GEC to mark 20th anniversary with chapel project

The Global Evangelical Church (GEC), Ho SSNIT Flats branch will this year herald its 20th anniversary with the construction of a new chapel.

Reverend Dr Seth K. Dzokoto, Resident Pastor told the Ghana News Agency in an interview that Reverend Dr Setorwu Ofori, Moderator of the Church, would be cutting the sod to climax the celebration, which would also be used to raise GH¢300,000.00 for the project.

The SSNIT Flats branch was conceived in 1997 by three members who said they were directed by the Holy Spirit to get a place of worship within the residential area, which would also serve nearby communities.

After failing at several attempts to get a classroom accommodation for church services, the three persons were offered the home of one Mr and Mrs Agbenaza.

He said the first church service was held on Sunday January 11, 1998 under the shade of mango and guava trees at the Agbenaza’s residence, and attended by 23 people.

The new congregation won the blessings of Reverend Commander F.H Gbewornyo, the then Moderator of the E.P Church of Ghana, whiles several elders of the mother church and other sympathetic Christian brethren visited to minister, and encouraged members.

Reverend Dzokoto said though the first five years of the church were very challenging, its members persisted through prayer, and on Sunday September 28, 2003, Reverend Wilson Emmanuel Ashigbie became the first Resident Pastor.

He said an acre of land near the SSNIT Flats was acquired from the Wusu clan of Ho Dome, and through intensive communal labour by members of the church, a three-unit classroom block was built to be used temporarily as a church auditorium.

Reverend Dzokoto said on November 06, 2005 the church moved from Mr and Mrs Agbenaza’s residence to its permanent site.

He said that day also marked seven years since the Church was established, as well as its official inauguration as a Parish.

Rev Dzokoto said during a December 31, 2005 watch night service, Reverend Ashigbie conferred on the church the name “Bethel Chapel” aka “Rescue Centre”.

Bethel Chapel, on the occasion of its 10th anniversary cut sod for the construction of a four-bedroom pastor’s residence, which was completed and dedicated in January 2014.

With the growing church membership came the need to expand the chapel, and a sod was cut for the expansion as well as for the construction of an office for the pastor.

These were completed, and were dedicated in April 2016, while the church managed to again acquire a new building plot from the Wusu clan for the construction of a permanent church premises.
