Hohoe MCE promises to pursue completion of Hohoe Sports Stadium project

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Hohoe, Mr. Andrews Teddy Ofori has assured his administration will vigorously pursue the completion of the Hohoe Sports Stadium project started by the assembly eight years ago.

This was contained in his sessional address delivered at the first meeting of the second session of the seventh Hohoe Municipal Assembly held last Friday at the municipal assembly hall.

The Hohoe Sports Stadium project which was commenced by a former Municipal Chief ExecutiveMr. Peter Amewu during his tenure was abandoned after the President Kuffuor-led New Patriotic Party lost power in 2008.

The current state of the project is a source of worry for residents of the municipality who are hoping the project if completed will improve sports in the municipality and make available business opportunities to them.

Several calls by residents and threats of demonstration to compel the municipal assembly to continue work on the project have proved futile.

The Hohoe Constituency cadres wing of the National Democratic Congress (NDC)marking the 37th anniversary of the June 4 uprising petitioned the then Municipal Chief ExecutivePeter Worlanyo Abomah on the state of the project with the MCE responding the project contract documents cannot be sighted.

Mr. Abomah, however, said steps would be taken to commence work on the project with Member of Parliament for the area, Dr. Mrs. Bernice Adiku-Heloo, who was part of the celebration promising to give the project attention.

The Presiding Member of the Hohoe Municipal Assembly, Leonard Heh in a recent interview with Lorlornyo Sports revealed the municipal assembly is indebted to the contractor working on the project, a reason, he said is the cause of the project being at a standstill.

Mr. Ofori said the assembly had invested a lot of money in the project and will pursue its completion to put Hohoe in its right place in the field of sports in the country.
