Hohoe Municipal Assembly, two others made purchases without alternative quotations – 2015 Auditor General’s Report

The 2015 Auditor General’s Report has mentioned Hohoe Municipal Assembly among three assemblies which procured goods and services worth GH¢73,514.00 without obtaining alternative quotations from other suppliers or service providers to ensure competitive pricing.

The actions by the assemblies are contrary to Part IV Section 43(1) of the Public Procurement Act, 2003 (Act 663) which enjoins a procurement entity to obtain quotations from as many suppliers or contractors as practicable but at least from three different sources.

The report noted that Hohoe Municipal Assembly procured goods and services amounting to GH¢6,675.00, Ho Municipal Assembly, GH¢6,389.00 and Ketu South District GH¢60,450.00.

According to the report, since the transactions lacked transparency and fairness it is likely the Assemblies failed to obtain value for money.

To promote transparency and accountability in management of public resources, the Auditor General recommended that the affected assemblies comply with the provisions in the Public Procurement Act, 2003.
