Hohoe Municipal Hospital targets zero maternal mortality rate

The Hohoe Municipal Hospital is targeting a zero maternal mortality rate for the year 2018.

This means every pregnant woman who visits the hospital to deliver must go home healthy and with her baby.

The hospital through determination and hard work managed to reduce its maternal mortality rate from nine to three in 2017.

According to the Medical Superintendent at the hospital, Dr. Pius Mensah, the facility is determined more than ever to ensure that every delivery at the hospital ends without any loss of life.

Addressing a stakeholders meeting organized by the Municipal Ambulance Committee in Hohoe, Dr. Pius Mensah said a strong collaboration between the hospital and the community is required to achieve the set target.

He called on members of the Hohoe Municipal Council of Queens to assist the hospital establish pregnancy schools in their various communities so as to keep track of pregnant women in the municipality.

He also appealed to queen mothers to ensure that pregnant women within their areas of jurisdiction receive health care on regular basis adding the municipal hospital will organize community outreach healthcare programmes when necessary to ensure that pregnant women receive the needed health attention.

Dr. Mensah appealed to leaders of the nine traditional areas within the municipality to assist the hospital organise blood donation exercises on monthly basis to stock its blood bank.
