I have not resigned – Dep. E/R Min.

Deputy Eastern Regional Minister Joseph Tetteh, has, through his Special Aide Charles Adaba, denied rumours on social media that he has resigned in solidarity with his Krobo tribesman Boakye Agyarko, who was recently fired by President Nana Akufo-Addo over the controversial Ameri deal.

Mr Adaba told ClassFMonline.com that the letter circulating on social media to that effect is fake.

Mr Tetteh himself, also told Accra100.5FM that he has not resigned.

The purported letter addressed to President Nana Akufo-Addo, which was dated Wednesday, 9 August 2018, suggested the Member of Parliament (MP) for Upper Manya Krobo Constituency took the decision to resign based on “the current happenings in your government especially the dismissal of my senior brother and colleague, Hon. Boakye Agyarko who has been a strong pillar in the Krobo bloc and whose support led to the annexing of the seat from the NDC (National Democratic Congress) in the Upper Manya Krobo Constituency”.

President Akufo-Addo sacked Mr Agyarko Monday night.

A letter dated 6 August 2018, signed by Director of Communications at the Presidency, Mr Eugene Arhin, said Mr Agyarko is to hand over his office to the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, John Peter Amewu, who will act temporarily as Minister of Energy, until a substantive appointment is made.

Mr Arhin told journalists in subsequent interviews that the new Ameri deal, which is currently before parliament, has also been cancelled.

The president wished Mr Agyarko well in his future endeavours.

Mr Agyarko’s dismissal is in connection with the Novation and Amendment Agreement of the controversial $150 million Ameri deal signed by the John Mahama administration.

Mr Agyarko came under heavy criticism when he claimed that Ghana will gain $405 million from the new power deal with Ameri Energy but it was discovered that the country will rather lose up to $472 million.
