#IWD: Rise to the occasion and do exploits – EC boss charges Ghanaian women

The Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC) Mrs Jean Mensa has charged Ghanaian women to rise to the occasion and do exploits when an opportunity presents itself as Ghana joins the rest of the world to commemorate the International Women’s Day today, Friday, 8 March 2019 on the theme: “Think equal, build smart, innovate for change”.

In her goodwill message to women in the country, Mrs Mensa said the election management body is fully committed to supporting equal rights of both men and women in the country’s electoral process.

“The Electoral Commission pledges to support women to stand as equal partners and empower them to contribute their quota to the building of a humane society in Ghana,” she stated adding that “We charge Ghanaian women to rise up and break the glass ceilings by making a difference in our society through creative and impactful innovations.”

Mrs Mensa applauded the First and Second Ladies of Ghana, female members of parliament and ministers of state, women in the clergy, women in public service, female entrepreneurs and business leaders, market women, women in activism and civil society, queen mothers, housemakers, and all the women who have contributed to make Ghana great and strong. “We recognise and salute all the men who have and continue to champion the cause of women across the country,” she stated.

While wishing all Ghanaian women a happy International Women’s Day, Mrs Mensa charged “our young women and girls to take up the mantle and rise to the occasion to do exploits.”

International Women’s Day, celebrated on 8 March every year is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity.
