Kidnapped girls were lured with phones, jobs – Police

The Western Regional Police Command has revealed that the suspect being held for kidnapping three girls in the Western Region, was no stranger to the victims.

Samuel Udoetuk-Wills, a Nigerian, who previously escaped from police custody, was recaptured while sleeping in an abandoned building a few weeks ago.

The prime suspect has refused to reveal vital information to the police about the whereabouts of the girls. He is being held in connection with separate kidnappings in the Sekondi/Takoradi metropolis and the Effia Kwesimintsim municipality in the Western Region.

The three girls are 21-year-old Priscilla Blessing Bentum, last seen on 17 August 2018; 18-year-old Ruth Love Quayson, last seen on 4 December 2018; and 18-year-old Priscilla Mantebea Koranchie, last seen on 21 December 2018.

At a press briefing on Wednesday, 23 January 2019, the Western Regional Police Commander, DCOP Vincent Redeemer Dedzo revealed that the missing girls had been communicating with the kidnapper.

“The accused [person] contacted the victims several times through mobile phone communication. He promised the first and second victims jobs while he promised the third victim a mobile phone,” DCOP Dedzo said.

He continued: “The police have discovered some gadgets from the accused person for investigation purposes, and had been forwarded to the CID Headquarters for analysis”.

The Commander said the accused person has named four other accomplices, adding that the police are making “strenuous efforts to arrest these suspects from their hideout”.
