Konadu is caretaker coach of Black Stars

Maxwell Konadu has been appointed by the Executive Committee of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) as the caretaker coach of Ghana’s senior national football team, the Black Stars.

His appointment was announced at an emergency meeting held on Tuesday, 28 February.

Konadu is to handle the Stars until a substantive coach is appointed to replace Avram Grant.

60-year-old Grant tendered his resignation at a meeting on Tuesday, 7 February at the Ghana Football Association just as a post-mortem was about being done on the Black Stars’ poor performance at the AFCON in Gabon.

Ahead of the AFCON, Grant had dropped hints he may move on after the continental showpiece.

Grant guided the Black Stars to win silver at the 2015 AFCON and was at the helm of affairs at the recent AFCON 2017 tournament in Gabon where the team placed fourth.

Grant signed a 27-month deal to take over from Maxwell Konadu in 2014.

Konadu, a former Kotoko striker, has been deputy coach of the Black Stars since 2012. Until he is replaced, Konadu will be preparing the local Black Stars for the 2018 CHAN qualifier against Burkina Faso in March.
