Kpando School Proprietor to register a candidate he prevented from writing BECE to sit for private exams

The proprietor of Miracle Preparatory School in Kpando, Mr Lucas Tagbovi, who prevented one of his candidates from writing this year’s Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) is to register him to sit for the private BECE.

This was the recommendation of a four-member committee constituted by the Kpando Municipal Education Directorate to investigate circumstances that lead to Mr Tagbovi preventing his own candidate Godwin Godo from writing the BECE in June, this year.

The committee’s report intercepted by Lorlornyo News also recommended that the school proprietor bears the cost of the candidate’s transport fare at the time of the examination including extra tuition as well as feeding.

Additionally, Mr Tagbovi is to be made to sign a bond of good behavior and abide by rules and regulations of the Ghana Education Service, and also face the Kpando Municipal Disciplinary Committee.

The committee also recommended that all private schools should abide by rules governing examination procedures, especially the dos and donts.

Chaired by the Headmaster of Bishop Herman College, Mr Attimah Mathias Setornyo, the committee in its investigation found out that, Mr. Lucas Tagbovi made several pronouncements at different places including the school’s assembly grounds, his church and to other parties who intervened on the matter that; Godwin Godo should not step foot at the examination centre to write the 2017 BECE since he (Mr Tagbovi) registered him.

The report said the candidate, Godwin Godo did not write the English paper 1 & 2 because of the threat by the proprietor.

The committee also found out that one Evangelist Joseph Amoako brought Godwin Godo to the examination centre to report the matter to the Supervisor and the Police Officer In-Charge, and when the proprietor learnt that the candidate was at the centre, he went back and drove him away.

Lorlornyo News has also sighted a letter dated 9th August, 2017, signed by the Kpando Municipal Education Director, Mrs Angela Akua Attakey forwarding the committee’s report, query of response from Mr Tagbovi, Godwin Godo’s report and Evangelist Joseph Amoako’s repot to the Volta Regional Director of the Ghana Education Service, Ho.
