‘Male teachers are becoming drunkards in the rural zones’ – GNAT

According to the first national trustee of GNAT, these teachers “associate themselves with palm wine tappers and akpeteshie distillers” – a development which subsequently results in the jeopardy of their quality of teaching.

The revelation by this GNAT executive follows earlier reports that some female teachers in the hinterlands are trading their bodies for food due to the lack of funds which subsequently makes them hungry.

These issued raised by GNAT helps us understand the reason(s) why most teachers decline postings to the rural zones of the country.

Even though the president had recently entreated teachers to accept postings to the Northern regions of the country, it remains clear that government might have lost sight of economic and social burdens that these teachers subject themselves to all in the name of education.
