The Health Ministry has confirmed that it has begun investigations into the alleged GHC9, 247,800 fraud at the Tepa Nursing and Midwifery training college in the Ahafo Ano North of the Ashanti region.
Ms. Victoria Amoah and an accountant Asamoah Richard allegedly used fake receipts and invoices to milk the government institution during every admission year, according to investigations by Ultimate FM.
The alleged corrupt practice began in 2011 two years after the college was established. A deep throat source within the management of the school and a teaching staff confirmed the corrupt practices of the two administrators with documents to back their claims.
Checks with students of the college also revealed that at least about 50% of past and current students on campus did not pass through any interview panel as prescribed by the Health Ministry.
The principal has also been accused of refusing to have students matriculate and undergo medical exams despite billing them.
One of the students who spoke to Ultimate FM’s Isaac Justice Bediako on condition of anonymity said the college authorities extort huge amount of monies through various means.
Speaking on Starr News, the Deputy Health Minister, Tina Mensah revealed that the principal came to her office about two weeks ago in an attempt to clear her name of the allegations.
According to the Member of Parliament for Weija, she found it strange that the principal will come to her office to speak of the allegations if there was no merit in them.
Madam Mensah added that her ministry has ordered a full probe into the activities of the school’s principal adding that the findings will be made public after investigations are concluded.
