Minority MPs walk out of Parliament over AMERI deal

The Minority Members of Parliament on Tuesday staged a walk out over deliberations on the controversial $510 million AMERI power deal.

The walkout followed concerns raised by Minority MPs that they were being gagged and prevented from making contributions on the floor.

According to the Minority, the Speaker of Parliament, Prof Mike Ocquaye was silencing them and that they have no alternative but to walk out as a sign of protest.

The Minority Leader, Mr Haruna Iddrisu accused Prof Oquaye of being a threat to democracy in Parliament.

They were not happy that a motion on the AMERI deal had been referred to the Energy Committee without prior debate. The motion was filed by the Member of Parliament (MP) for Adansi Askowa, Mr Kobina Tahiru Hammond to seek cancellation of the controversial US$510 AMERI power deal signed under the Mahama administration.
