Mob kills suspected thief

A mob has arrested and killed a suspected thief by burning him in a car at Huhunya near Boti Falls in the Eastern Region.

The suspect who was said to have been in the company of two others had journeyed from Ashaiman to Klo-Agogo to steal sheep.

The Eastern Regional Police Public Relations Officer, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Ebenezer Tetteh told the media that the suspects were spotted with sheep in a Toyota Corolla vehicle with registration number GW 4151-19 and were chased from Klo-Agogo through Boti falls to Huhunya.

He said the suspects on reaching the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) barrier at Huhunya discovered that it was closed and so diverted their journey to the Sikaben-Otokporlu-Asesewa road.

DSP Tetteh said, in their quest to escape from the mob, they hit and killed with their vehicle two motor riders who were chasing them from Huhunya.

He said the motor riders, Kwame Tetefio, 31, a beads marker and Aaron Padi Atema, 45, a labourer at the GRA barrier, died on the spot.

DSP Tetteh said the suspects returned to Huhunya where one was arrested but the other two managed to escape.

He said the mob damaged the Toyota vehicle and put the arrested suspect in the boot of the car and set it ablaze.

DSP Tetteh said upon a tip off, the police rushed to the scene and found the body of the suspect burnt beyond recognition and also that of two dead sheep.

He said the bodies of the two motor riders and the suspect had been deposited at the Koforidua Regional Hospital morgue for preservation.

DSP Tetteh said a live sheep was also found and impounded together with an unregistered motorcycle at the scene.
