Music Composer Kenneth Kafui honoured by University of Ghana

The University of Ghana, Legon has honoured one of her outstanding composers produced by the Music Department  (IAS)  SPA, Mr. Kenneth K. A. Kafui at a ceremony organized by the University of Ghana Jubilee Choir.

The ceremony held on Friday at the R. S. Amegashie Auditorium of the University of Ghana Business School was dubbed: “A Celebration of Ghanaian Music Composers with Kenn Kafui,” and saw in attendance some prominent personalities from the University community, ministers of the gospel, members of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church, choral groups, students and family members.

The various choral groups including the University of Ghana Jubilee Choir sang songs composed by Kenn Kafui, as he is popularly known, amidst cheers from the audience. There were also piano recitals from some students who really displayed their talent on the piano.

In a citation presented to him by the Jubilee Choir, Kenn Kafui was described as a great music composer and lecturer

In an interview with Lorlornyo News, Mr Kafui thanked the University for the honour done him.

Mr Kenneth Kafui, a native of Gbi, Hohoe is a music composer and currently a lecturer in Music Theory and Composition at the Department of Music, School of Performing Arts, University of Ghana, Legon.

Among his songs are Dzidzom and Mida Akpe.

He has participated in a number of International Composer’s workshops in Bulgaria, Netherlands, Russia and China where he presented papers on African Art Music Composition.

Mr Kafui’s works have been cited in several music books both locally and internationally.
