Nana Addo’s galamsey efforts commendable – MP

Tarkwa-Nsuaem Member of Parliament (MP), has lauded the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for staying true to his promise of helping to improve the skills of illegal miners in the country.

The government has introduced a new course at the University of Mines in Tarkwa which aims at helping improve upon skills of illegal miners in the country.

Deputy Lands and Natural Resources Minister, Benito Owusu Bio revealed on Adom FM’s Morning Show, ‘Dwaso Nsem’ Tuesday that the course forms part of government’s efforts to combating illegal mining and also sanitize the mining industry.

“We have started training at the University of Mines, Tarkwa on mining which aims at helping to educate the miners who enroll there…both the educated and the uneducated miners…,” he said.

Programmes to be taught under the course, he said include how to mine sustainably, how to mine without destroying the environment and the effects of excessive use of mercury on the environment and the miner.

The programme, he said, would train tens of thousands illegal miners.

This initiative, the Tarkwa Nsuaem MP, George Mireku Duker, said is very commendable and he thus entreated the government to continue with the programme to help thousands more.

“I must commend the President for the initiative, he has really shown his commitment to fighting galamsey and helping restructure the mining in the country….,” the MP said.

The introduction of the programme, the Legislator added forms part of government’s efforts to ensuring that the mining industry is sanitized to ensure that there would be safe mining in the country.

He further assured galamseyers in the country that they have to be rest assured that the President would end mining in the country but would rather work to make things better for them.
