Ofori-Atta to present mid-year budget review July 13

The mid-year budget review presentation will come as the country prepares to head to the IMF

Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta will on Wednesday, 13 July present the mid-year budget review to Parliament.

The mid-year budget review presentation will come as the country prepares to head to the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

Despite the implementation of the Electronic transfer levy (E-levy), government is not generating enough revenue, according to indications.

Government is set to begin talks with the IMF for financial assistance with the country’s economy.

A statement issued by the Ministry of Information on Friday, 1 July 2022 said: “The President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has authorised Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta to commence formal engagements with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), inviting the Fund to support an economic programme put together by the Government of Ghana.”

It disclosed that: “This follows a telephone conversation between the President and the IMF Managing Director, Miss Kristalina Georgievs, conveying Ghana’s decision to engage with the Fund.”

According to the Ministry of Information, the decision to go to the IMF was reached at a meeting held on Thursday, 30 June 2022.

It added: ““The engagement with the IMF will seek to provide balance of payment support as part of a broader effort to quicken Ghana’s build back in the face of challenges induced by the Covid-19 pandemic and, recently, the Russia Ukraine crises.”
