Oppong Nkrumah calls for live telecast of Mahama’s killers’ trial

Deputy Information Minister is calling for a live telecast of the trail of the suspects involved in the gruesome murder of Captain Adams Mahama.

Kojo Oppong Nkrumah maintained that the case to too significant to be heard on the blindside of the populace.

This is after a Cape Coast District Court remanded into police custody the seven persons suspected to have played roles in the brutal killing of the Commander of an Army detachment.

The suspects – William Baah (Assemblyman of Denkyira-Obuasi), Bismark Donkor, Phillip Badu, Kofi Nyame, Anthony Amoah and Kofi Badu – are alleged to have participated in the lynching of the officer at Denkyira-Obuasi and will remain in custody for two weeks. The identity of one other suspect is yet to be ascertained.

The Court, presided over by Justice Rita Amoanyiwa-Edusah, remanded the suspects into police custody upon the request by prosecution officer, ASP Hilarious Avornyo. 

Prosecution prayed the court for more time to enable the police conduct further investigations into the circumstances leading to the death of Captain Maxwell Adam Mahama.

A provisional murder charge was proffered against them.

In an exclusive interview with Adom FM’s Parliamentary correspondent, Abednego Asante Asiedu, the deputy Information Minister said a live telecast is necessary.

He said with the live telecast everyone would be offered the opportunity to see what is actually happening and know that the Court is hiding nothing from the public.

Mr. Oppong Nkrumah who is also the Member of Parliament for Ofoase-Ayirebi constituency said the trial and subsequent sentence of the suspects if should live on television will serve as a deterrent to others.

“The price Captain Mahama has paid with his soul should be a test case and mark an end to mob justice in the country” he stressed.

Kojo Oppong Nkrumah promised government commitment to ensure justice is served.
