“Osu Castle not a security zone:” This is not true, Aning tells Information Minister

The Director, Faculty of Academic Affairs & Research, Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre (KAIPTC) has tagged as false, claims by Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah that the Christiansborg Castle is not a security zone.

Dr. Aning said the claim by the government’s spokesperson “is not true” considering the process he went through before assessing the building recently.

Kwesi Aning-

Kwesi Aning said he was told the Castle is a security zone when he went there recently.

He told Samson Lardy Anyenini on Newsfile Saturday that when he appeared to testify before the Emile Short Commission – which is using the Castle as venue for its investigation into the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election violence – he was not allowed to send his vehicle inside.

“I was told it is a security zone and I did not have the authority,” he stated.

Oppong Nkrumah lied?

After Joy News premiered its investigative piece detailing how a pro-NPP militia, De-Eye Group, was using the Osu-based Christiansborg Castle otherwise called Osu Castle for its operations, the Information Minister fought back.

In his five-paged defence, Mr. Oppong Nkrumah stated: “that the Castle, Osu IS NOTa ‘Security Zone,’ neither is it an annex of the Presidency…”

Scores of people took to social media to chastise the Minister for saying the former seat of government and where offices of some Ministers of State are housed is not a security zone.

“This lie is unfortunate Kojo,” one person wrote.

“So is @konkrumah saying the castle, a security zone where clearance and permission is needed, is the place where people can gather in the hopes of finding jobs,” another asked

So is @konkrumah saying the castle, a security zone where clearance and permission is needed, is the place where people can gather in the hopes of finding jobs? These are surely party people and the NPP must be ashamed for harbouring them specially.119:06 – 8 Mar 2019Twitter Ads information and privacySee Occupy FlagStaff’s other Tweets

The Militia Group

The group, De-Eye, trained and operated from the Osu Castle for two years; since this President, Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo took office.

According to Joy News sources they were cleared out after the documentary aired but Mr. Oppong Nkrumah insists in his statement the group was evicted in October 2018.

However, some secret filming of the group’s activities was done in December 2018.

According to the group, they owe alliance to the NPP and are responsible for providing security for its members.

They are, however, unregistered and the National Security according to the government has no idea of the group as a private militia.
