Pencils of Promise rescues Avekpordome D/A Basic Schools

Pupils and teachers of Avekpordome D/A Basic Schools in the Central Tongu District of the Volta region can now heave a sigh of relief following the construction of new classroom blocks to replace the dilapidated ones.
Pencils of Promise, an NGO has cut the sod for the construction of a five and six unit classroom blocks with sanitation facilities.
The project which was solely funded by the NGO is to help move classrooms under trees to well-furnished classrooms in order to enhance quality teaching and learning.
The Headmaster of Avekordome D/A Basic Schools, Patrick Dotsey Ahiave who spoke at the sod cutting ceremony said the construction of the new classroom blocks for the school should be a motivation for parents and guardians to send their children to school.
Mr. Dotsey Ahiave who highlighted the school’s previous predicament expressed his appreciation to Pencils of Promise for heeding to their request and taking up the project.
He added that the facility when completed will help put away the destructions that are associated with studying under trees.
Torgbey Avadada Esu IV, Chief of Avekpordome also expressed his gratitude to Pencils of Promise for deeming it right to favour the school among the surrounding community schools.
He further appealed to the youth to continue show commitment and enthusiasm towards the project so that the work can be completed on time.
There have been several interventions by government and NGOs to uplift the standard of education in the country, especially in the rural settings.
But one initiative which has been phenomenal in the lives of many rural parents and their children of school going age is Pencils of Promise.
According to the Country Director, Freeman Gobbah, the aim of the organization is to put a smile on the faces of deprived schools in order to enhance teaching and learning.
