Police impounds 394 motorbikes in recent operation

Periodic police operations to clamp down on criminal activities and prevent crime committed by motorbikers, have led to the seizure of 394 motorbikes by the Accra Regional Police Command.

The five-day operation, which started on 22 July 2021 and is still ongoing, is part of efforts by the police to sustain the current security situation in Accra.

The police operation is also aimed at sanitising the system by reclaiming stolen motorbikes and compelling recalcitrant riders to regularise and update their documents in line with road traffic regulations.

Following directives of Regional Commander DCOP Afful Boakye Yiadom to continue the motorbike seizure exercise, all divisional commanders began the operation in their various divisions to impound the motorbikes for various offences such as using unregistered bikes, riding without helmets, using motorbikes without a licence or insurance, among others.

The Madina Division impounded 30 motorbikes.

Eleven and 15 motorbikes were impounded at Abokobi/Ayimensah and Kpeshie, respectively.

Twenty-five motorbikes were impounded at Accra Central and 15 at Oyibi/Frafraha.

The police in Mamprobi impounded 34 motorbikes.

In Dansoman, 51 motorbikes got impounded while 23 bikes got seized at East Legon and 74 in Kaneshie,

Also, 21 bikes were impounded at Kotobabi, 15 at Adjen Kotoku, 33 at Pokuase and 47 in Nima.

All suspects are being screened by the various divisions for necessary actions.
