Police to launch website to gather crime information

The Ghana Police Service has given indications it will soon launch a new website to enable it to gather detailed information about crime in the country.

The website will also provide very useful information about personal and public safety and security.

The Inspector General of Police, David Asante Apeatu said the website, which will be launched within two (2) weeks, will also bridge the communication gap between the Police service and the public.

Interacting with the media in Accra, he said the website, when ready, will serve as an easy source of Police information for journalists.

“Happily, we have designed a website that is so interactive that journalists can quickly go there for information. It is going to be launched within two weeks and I’m sure that is going to alleviate some of the challenges that you’ve been facing,” he said.

He added that, the website will also present the opportunity to send information directly to the police and make enquiries about activities of the service.

Journalists have sometimes had difficulty accessing information from the police. This has resulted in a huge communication gap between both organized establishments.

This has in some circumstances led to the Police accusing journalists of misrepresentation, but the IGP believes the advent of the website will help foster a good working relationship between the police and the media.
