Porn on TV: Thunder TV apologises and withdraws porn content

One of the television stations cited by a petition to the National Media Commission for showing pornographic movies has withdrawn the content with immediate effect.

Primenewsghana can confirm Thunder TV in a response to the NMC, has apologised to anyone who found the content offensive.

Two media practitioners, Tommy Annan Forson and James Oberko on Monday petitioned the NMC, citing TV XYZ, ICE TV and Thunder TV for airing pornographic material. They argued this was in breach of broadcasting regulations in the country.

Executive Secretary of the NMC, George Sarpong, receiving the petition indicated the TV stations would be given the opportunity to respond to the issues raised in the petition as part of procedure.

In the response of Thunder TV intercepted by Primenewsghana , the station explained the movies were shown in a segment of a program called “Biegya” aired between 10:30pm and 12:30am on Fridays. “The program seeks to provide resource to adult viewers to keep their relationships, marriages and family lives healthy.”

The response continued that as a requirement and per the commission’s broadcasting standard guidelines, a strong disclaimer and parental guidance warnings are issued, to ensure persons who are unqualified to watch do not do so.

Thunder TV apologised to anybody who found the content offensive and indecent.

“With immediate effect that segment of the programme is hereby withdrawn” the response concluded.
