Power voltage in Volta Region at the right levels – ECG

Mr Bernard Tetteh, Volta Regional Engineer of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has debunked claims by some customers that the Region was experiencing extremely low or high electricity voltage.

He said the Company supplied its “valued customers” a power voltage of 230 with a tolerance level of plus or minus ten per cent.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on the sidelines of the Company’s Customer Open Day in Ho, Mr Tetteh said a voltage of between 207V and 253V was within the power threshold and normal.

Mr Philip Agbezudor, Regional Manager, Public Utility Regulatory Commission (PURC), said the supposedly low voltage experienced during the evenings was as a result of huge loads during peak periods.

He said customers who demanded the actualization of the 18 per cent electricity relief as mentioned in the 2018 budget that the Commission would come out with its submissions within a month.

Mr Agbezudor said the Commission had a “60-day sphere” to take inputs and review for the feasibility of the subsidy.

He called on customers to report cases of extortion and quality of service to the Commission to improve service delivery.

Mr Joseph Forson, Regional Manager, ECG, called on customers especially corn millers to be mindful of the motor used for operations.

He said some of the motors consumed more power than was needed for production, thereby increasing cost.
