Rev. Father Samuel Kwame Afenyo Iddah Goes Home

The mortal remains of the Assistant Parish Priest of St Augustine’s Catholic Church in Hohoe, the late Reverend Father Samuel Kwame Afenyo Iddah was laid to rest at Sorkode Gborgame after burial mass at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Ho on Monday.

A large crowd from all walks of life across the country including the clergy and religious attended the solemn mass.

 

There were reading of tributes from various groups in the church and also from the Ho Diocesan Priests’ Association (HODPA) who described the late Farher Samuel as a very hardworking priest.

In his homily, the Bishop of Ho Diocese, Most Rev Emmanuel Kofi Fianu, SVD, called on Christians not to be afraid to ask God questions when tragedies hit them and also turn to Him in times of difficulties because He is the only one who can console them.

Bishop Fianu said Christians should be ready to help fellow Christians carry their crosses.

According to Bishop Fianu, the short priestly life of Father Samuel Iddah will always be remembered because of the impact he had on many people adding; “An early death is not evil for the just.”

He called on the congregation to pray for the response of the soul of the departed priest and said the death of Father Samuel Iddah should strengthen their faith in God.

Rev. Father Samuel Kwame Afenyo Iddah was born on 14th May, 1988 at Asuokor in the Ashanti Region. He completed his basic and junior high schools in his hometown of Lolobi in 2002. He then proceeded to St Mary’s Seminary Senior High School, Lolobi and completed in 2005.

Since he had a very strong passion for the priesthood, he went through the priestly education and finally graduated with Bachelor Degrees in Religion and Sociology, and in Sacred Theology in 2015 from St Peter’s Major Regional Seminary, Pedu in Cape Coast.

He was ordained as a Priest on the 25th of July, 2015 by Bishop Emeritus Francis A. K. Lodonu.

Father Samuel met his untimely death through a motor accident on the 22nd of June, 2017, on his way to celebrate mass at Peki.

While some parishners, classmates and loved ones described the late priest as a man of many people, who was always with the people and for the people, others described him as a gentle, humble and vibrant young priest, a great teacher and motivational speaker.

The Late Rev. Father Samuel Iddah was a co-host to his Parish Priest, Rev. Father Isaac Benuyenah on TV Gold on Sunday evenings and on Lorlornyo FM in Hohoe on Mondays at dawn on the programme, “Catholic Hour of Faith.
