Robber in Akatsi killing jailed 15 years

A 23-year old Nigerian who was involved in a dawn robbery operation at Kotomensahkope near Akatsi on the Akatsi-Torve road in December last year has been jailed 15 years in hard labour by the Sogakope Circuit Court.
The convict, Ejiogu Isdor Chijioke, who resides in Aflao in the Volta Region and his accomplices, failed in their attempt to rob commuters on the Akatsi–Torve road in a dawn operation.
They clashed with a team of police officers during the operation leading to the arrest of Ejiogu Isdor Chijioke with the help of some residents around the area after an attempt by the convict to escape.
Chijioke during a court appearance pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit robbery.
The court, presided over by Mr Emmanuel A. Essampong, after it held that the prosecution had proved beyond reasonable doubt the charges levelled against the accused, found him guilty of the offence which Chijioke agreed to.
Passing judgement, Mr Essampong said he took into consideration the fact that Chijioke had been truthful during his appearance in court, and was sober when he was remanded into prison custody.
The prosecutor, Chief Inspector Julius Dzeble, told the court that at the dawn of Sunday December 10, 2017, Chijioke and his team were stationed around Kotomensahkope with the intention of committing robbery.
He said a police patrol team had a tip off about the alleged planned robbery on drivers plying that stretch of the road.
The robbers on seeing the police, bolted into a nearby bush after one was gunned down by the police.
The police further pursued them but could not find any.
But while on the patrol expedition later, the police had information that someone had rushed into a house suspected to be a thief.
The convict in an attempt to escape was later apprehended.
Briefing the media after judgment, the Akatsi South Police Commander, Chief Supt. Bismark Agyapong revealed that his outfit will leave no stone unturned in combating crime in the area.
