Samproso school disowns 6-year-old boy who lost his legs

Teachers at Samproso SDA school in the Ashanti region say they cannot be blamed for the accident of six-year-old Peter Mensah.

According to them, the child was not sacked from school for non-payment of printing fees ahead of the terms examination as it is being speculated in the media.

The six-year-old boy was run over by a truck resulting in his legs being amputated after suffering severe injuries.

According to an eye witness, Opoku Alexander, the boy was knocked down by a vehicle while crossing the road to his house after being sacked from school to collect printing fees and a studies fees amounting to GHC2.20 pesewas.

Opoku said the KIA truck driver who knocked down little Peter sped off but was later arrested by the Offinso Police.

The boy who was in a critical condition was saved by a Good Samaritan and rushed to the Okomfo Anokye Teaching hospital for treatment.

The victim’s grandmother, Esther Darkoa speaking on Adom FM’s midday news said the future of her grandson has been shuttered.

But almost a week after Adom News aired the story, a teacher from the school who only gave her name as Fati denied the allegations.

She told Time FM’s Agyekum Tabono that the boy’s grandmother forged the story to solicit for funds from people.

“We didn’t sack the boy from school because of GHC2. No, we didn’t do that. The child came to school around 9 am and later set off to go for his lunch money. The grandmother saw the boy crossing the road and never helped.

“She is just using some means to solicit for money to take care of the child but I can boldly say that the school is not responsible for the child’s predicament” she explained.

However, mother of the boy, Fosua Alice expressed shock at the assertions of teacher Fati.

She insisted the school is to be blamed for the predicament of her young son.
