School feeding caterers threaten strike action if…

School Feeding caterers in the country are threatening a strike action if their eight month arrears is not paid to them by Monday, 12th May, 2017.

Chairperson of the School Feeding Caterers Association, Maame Yaa Duodua Appiagyei speaking on Adom FM’s Morning Show, ‘Dwaso Nsem’ Friday said the caterers have not been paid since June 2016.

“The 5432 caterers have decided not to cook for the children again…we are on strike and we won’t cook again at least from Monday because the caterers do not have the resource to mobilise to schools and cook…,” she said.

According to the school feeding caterers, they approached the Minister for Gender, Women and Children’s Affairs, Otiko Afisa Djaba about their plight in January 2017 who assured that they will be paid.

“We met with the minister early this year when she was appointed in January…she promised to give us our monies but we have waited this long, the school feeding secretariat and the minister are all not to telling us anything so we are laying down our utensils…,” she said.

The government, Madam Appiagyei said, owes them one hundred and forty seven (147) days money.

The caterers, she said are paid 80 pesewas per child. Out of the amount, 5% of the amount goes into taxes. They also pay mobile money charges as well.
