Suspected robber standing trial for robbery arrested in the act; car impounded with stolen goods

The Kasoa police command on Wednesday intercepted a pink Sprinter mini bus with registration number, GR 6974-14 carrying items suspected to have been stolen.

Narrating the incident to Rainbow Radio, the Divisional Police Commander ACP Dennis Abade said, whiles his men were on patrol, they spotted the mini bus coming with full speed and all attempt to stop the driver failed.

So the boys had to fire warning shots and the car came to a stop but the occupants jumped out of the car and run away.

He added, ‘’when the men got closer, they saw bags of rice, sugar and other provisions. The car was driven to the police station only for us to know that, someone’s shop had been broken into at the Kasoa New Market.’’

He revealed further that, the case was under investigation.

Speaking to Rainbow Radio’s Banahene Agyekum he said, due to the persistent robberies in Kasoa township, the police have come up with vigorous patrol system.

The Kasoa township he added has been zoned into areas and every night, ”we send men to patrol from 6pm -6am.” ACP indicated the initiative has reduced criminal activities in the Kasoa township and residents are moving about their usual activities.

In a related development, a young man Faisal Abdulai, 24 has also been arrested for attempting to swap a fake phone to an unsuspected victim.

The ACP said, the person had a fake phone and after showing the original phone to the buyer, he swapped it with the fake phone but luck eluded him and was arrested by the patrol team.

Meanwhile, the patrol team on Friday had information that, one Abdul Rahman who was standing trial for robbery, was in town preparing to rob some residents.

‘’Police proceeded to the place and when he got to know that police were approaching, he took to his heels, firing warning shots for people to pave way for him to escape and in the course of it, his warning shot hit a civilian by name Gabriba Alhassan who is currently on admission at the Police Hospital. The police however outrun this armed robber and arrested him and his accomplice and they are in custody.’’

According to him, the residents after the arrest made an attempt to lynch the suspect but the police managed to foil that attempt.

‘’He is wounded and receiving treatment,’’ he added.

The ACP decried that is was difficult for them to trace where these criminals get their locally manufactured guns to operate.

”They are locally manufactured. They are not guns that are imported. So far we do not have any evidence that there is a local manufacturer here but we still investigating.”

He gave the assurance that the police will intensify their patrol to ensure arm robbery in the Kasoa township is reduced.

”We will continue the patrols day and night to ensure that armed robbery in Kasoa becomes a thing of the past.”
