Tokyo 2020: Meteors’ll qualify – Nunoo Mensah

The president of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC), Ben Nunoo Mensah, has expressed optimism that the Black Meteors will qualify for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

Ghana’s Olympic team must beat Algeria in their final qualifying round before aiming to pick one of the three Olympic football slots at the U23 Afcon in Egypt this year.

“I think the only hurdle we have now are Algeria. Once we go through the Algerians, at the African stage, trust me. There are three slots, I won’t be surprised if the Meteors pick up one of the slots,” Nunoo Mensah said.

“In my recent visit to Japan, everybody is keen on seeing the Ghana football team because we have always beaten Japan and they think that it’s a very good opportunity to pay back what we have been doing to them. But it won’t happen”, he added.

Ghana will host the Algerians on 5 June 2019 in the final qualifying round, before the 2nd leg on 9 June 2019.
