Tony Forson is new GBA president

Mr Tony Forson has been elected as the new president of the Ghana Bar Association (GBA).

Mr Forson beat Efua Ghartey and Charles Zwennes in a stiff contest on Thursday, 13 September 2018, at the GBA’s 2018/19 Annual General Conference in Koforidua in the Eastern Region.

He takes over from Benson Nutsukpui, whose tenure has come to an end.

Mr William Oduro emerged victorious as the Vice-President and Yaw Boafo Ayeboafo as Secretary.

Mr Gyau Baffour is now the Assistant Secretary while Yaa Gyakobo is the Public Relations Officer (PRO) and Saviour Kudze the Assistant PRO.

In an earlier address to the lawyers at their conference on 10 September, President Nana Akufo-Addo urged members of the GBA to be the natural champions of a law-based state, whose establishments should be solid enough to sanction effectively vigilantism, bank frauds, cyber frauds, sharp practice, illegal mining, unlawful exports of fertilisers and oil products, identity thefts, stealing of public funds, bribery and corruption, criminal cartels, and criminal behaviour in general.

“The employment of technology to the practice of law and the administration of justice will help facilitate the nation’s ability to reach these goals,” he added.
