Unemployed jailed two months for escaping from police custody

The Tarkwa District Court Two has sentenced Nana Yaw Bukari, 52, unemployed to two months imprisonment for unlawful escape from police custody.

He pleaded guilty and was convicted on his own plea.

Prosecuting, Sergeant Joseph Lartey told the court that the complainant is a police officer stationed at Tarkwa and accused a resident of Cyanide, suburb of Tarkwa.

He said on September 11, at about 1500 hrs the convict was involved in a stealing case which was being investigated by the police in Tarkwa.

He said on September 12, at about 1200 hrs, whilst the complainant was interrogating the convict at the Criminal Investigation Department office, Bukari saw an exhibit cutlass hidden under a table.

The Prosecution said Bukari pulled the cutlass and threatened to butcher anyone who came close, and in the process escaped.

Sargent Lartey said a search party organized and he was found that same day around the Tarkwa Railway station area and he was re-arrested.
