Woman, 30, braves odds to becoming Cooling Technician

It is a male-dominated area, but a 30-year old woman has braved the odds to becoming a cooling technician.

Sedo Aseye is now six months through her three-year training, and is already receiving praises from her boss and clients.

She fixes air-conditioners on vehicles, and is able to work on refregerators as well.

After arriving from Togolese capital, Lome, Sedo opted to train in a field which has seen some of her male counterparts rather give up.

According to Wisdom Tsogbe, the Managing Director of Ho-based Awizey Ventures, where Sedo is undergoing training, her zeal and ability to grasp what she is taught amazes him.

He tells Lorlornyo News that Sedo’s rapid development is a bit surprising, as some male apprentices quit abruptly.

“Most of my clients appreciate her work a lot. Some initially had doubts, but they liked her after she worked on their vehicles,” Mr Tsogbe said.

Sedo was busily working when Lorlornyo News visited. The mother of three was grateful to her husband and family who encouraged her into what she is doing now, after showing interest in becoming an auto mechanic.

According to her, no field is a reserve for either men or women.

“I am never discouraged. Some people, women especially, have criticised me. They say I am doing the work of men. For me there is no work reserved for men or women only. I have always liked to work on vehicles, so I am happy with what I am doing,” she asserted confidently.
